Elegance Quartet x Showtime: “Show Me Love” on The L Word: Generation Q

Every so often, a project comes along that blends our love of music, storytelling, and community in a way we could never anticipate. One of the most memorable moments in Elegance Quartet’s journey was creating a string arrangement for The L Word: Generation Q, commissioned by Showtime and built around Robyn’s iconic song “Show Me Love.”

Not only was our recording featured in an episode of The L Word: Generation Q, but the song was used as a wedding processional in a pivotal scene— an extra-special surprise given our everyday work performing at real weddings and events.

Commissioned by Showtime: Arranging a Modern Classic for Strings

Showtime approached us with a creative challenge:
Could Elegance Quartet transform “Show Me Love” into a lush, emotional, cinematic string arrangement suitable for a wedding scene?

Absolutely.

Our team crafted an arrangement that honored the iconic energy of Robyn’s original while translating its melody and spirit into a warm, romantic string soundscape. We recorded the track specifically for the episode, and seeing it come to life on screen—as a processional, no less—was a full-circle moment for a group that spends so much of its career helping couples walk down the aisle.

On Set in Los Angeles: Playing Ourselves (Literally)

The surprises didn’t stop at the recording.

Shortly after delivering the track, Showtime invited the actual Elegance Quartet to Los Angeles to appear in the episode. We were cast as the wedding musicians—performing along to our own track on set.

Being on location with the production team, seeing how the scene came together, and performing our arrangement surrounded by lights, cameras, and an incredible cast was an experience we’ll never forget.

A Special Philadelphia Connection: Meeting Kate Moennig

One of the most touching parts of the experience came from an unexpected hometown connection.

Katherine Moennig, who plays Shane on the series, is a native Philadelphian. Her father, William Moennig, owned one of Philadelphia’s most beloved violin shops—Moennig & Son—serving generations of the city’s string players, including members of our ensemble.

During filming, we bonded over this shared history. Kate was visibly moved to meet musicians whose instruments had been cared for by her father, and this heartfelt moment added a layer of personal connection to an already unforgettable trip to LA.
